The School of global Studies, SGS, is an interdisciplinary institution within the Social Science Faculty of Gothenburg University, The unit which participates in the SECOA-project is human ecology, a subject where intensive research on coastal areas and sustainable coastal zone management in Sweden has been carried out.
Gothenburg University is one of the largest universities in Sweden and Scandinavia, with about 50.000 students and 5.000 employees. Environmental research is carried out in several faculties and departments. Beyond disciplinary and specialized natural and social scientific research there is more interdisciplinary environmental research and teaching, among other institutions at the School of Global Studies (SGS).
Both the faculty and the School of Global Studies are involved in environmental research including coastal zone management problems. The unit of the School of Global studies which is involved in the in SECOA project, is human ecology, a subject where intensive research on coastal areas and sustainable coastal zone management in Sweden have been carrid out. The interdisciplinary profile of human ecology in teaching and research allows for the combination and integration of knowledge, experience and specializations from different disciplines - in an interdisciplinary team with researchers from social sciences (sociology) and natural sciences (ecology, biology).
