WP3 - Social, economic, cultural dimensions of urban development

Objective:

  • To analyse the economic, social, cultural characteristics of the coastal cities involved in the SECOA project;

  • To analyse the different patterns of urban development, following different urban planning systems;

  • To analyse the influence of human mobility on urban development;

  • To identify the mechanics and best- practice of  coordinated coastal zone management;

  • To identify the barriers to integrated coastal zone management including transactions costs, bargaining costs, opportunity costs of the regulatory mechanisms and the operational costs of various bureaucratic mechanisms to foster coastal coordination;

  • To identify the effectiveness of adopted  mechanisms to balance between conflicting coastal interest and multiply coastal uses and their ability to resolve costal conflicts;

  • To identify the impacts of different development scenarios for coastal zone incorporating both integrated and non-integrated tolls of ICZM, different spatial scales and varying temporal forecasting targets.

  • Database containing information on economic, social, cultural characteristics of case studies (N3.1)

  • Database containing information on urban development processes (N3.2)

  • Report containing information on effects of human mobility on urban development processes (D3.1)

  • Toolkit for coordination mechanisms available for coastal areas (D3.2)

  • Handbook of best-practise in Integrated Coast Zone Management (D3.3)

  • Simulation of the socio-economic impacts of integrated coastal zone management  measures (D3.4)
